Overview:

UW Credit Union is hiring a Financial Fraud Investigator to join our team. As a Financial Fraud Investigator, you'll dive into a dynamic role where every day presents new challenges. You'll be at the forefront of reviewing suspicious activities, managing a high volume of suspected fraud cases, and responding to member claims with care and precision. Your work will involve deep, often sensitive conversations with memberswhether theyve been victims of scams or are suspected of fraudulent activity. Youll also be communicating regularly with law enforcement, filing police reports, and handling the unexpected as you navigate complex fraud scenarios.

Success in this role requires a unique blend of strengths. You'll need excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to handle reports, crucial conversations, and member interactions. Responsibilities:

What Youll Do

  • Evaluate high-risk cases and member escalations, ensuring swift and accurate resolution of potential high-dollar losses.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into suspected or confirmed fraud, including analyzing transactions, gathering electronic evidence, and interviewing involved parties to uncover critical insights.
  • Develop comprehensive case reports and support Law Enforcement by preparing detailed evidence and providing testimony in court.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging fraud tactics and share valuable insights across the organization.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert to collaborate on cross-functional projects to create and implement effective Fraud Prevention programs.
  • Build and maintain a robust network with financial institutions and Law Enforcement agencies, partnering on risk assessments and recommending proactive measures to combat fraud.
  • Develop risk assessments and recommendations for fraud risk mitigation

Qualifications:

What Youll Need to Succeed

  • 6+ years of financial institution and financial crimes experience
  • Familiar with regulations (Reg CC, Reg E, Reg Z), as well as lending products and processes, and Credit Bureau reports.
  • Experience in handling sensitive and confidential information while educating members, internal partners, and community members about scams and fraud trends.
  • Strong ability to build rapport with members through phone, email, and secure messages.
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving escalations and empathizing with member concerns.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, coupled with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly organized with the capability to independently manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficient with computer and mobile devices, including major web browsers, operating systems, and Microsoft Office products.
