Position Introduction/Key Duties

Cimarron is seeking a Carpenter to support a large defense contractor in Springfield, VA.

Key Duties:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand project specifications.
  • Take measurements and calculate the sizes and amounts of materials needed for the project.
  • Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements.
  • Build window frames, doors, staircases, brattices, frame buildings, and other structures by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
  • Install hardwood floors, siding, cabinets, drywall, and insulation.
  • Inspect products and conduct repairs or maintenance as needed.
  • Comply with all company and government safety guidelines.
  • Under general supervision, demonstrate increased skill level in construction to include rough-in and lay-out.
  • Work under highly physical demands, deadlines, and time constraints to ensure timely completion of facilities construction projects.
  • Shift easily from project to project and work on several projects at a time, understanding the prioritization of work may cause planned delays in other tasks.
  • Pick up building materials for projects as requested and ordered by supervisors and validate ordered materials.

Required/Desired Skills, Experience, and Education

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • 5 or more years of construction experience.
  • Basic knowledge of National building codes, regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read basic blueprints and become familiar with building codes.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools to construct, renovate, and repair facilities and equipment.
  • Possesses some painting skills to assist in making repairs and maintenance of customer facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficient in using electrical and hand tools, as well as measurement tools.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph Clearance.
  • Completion of a carpentry program at a vocational school or carpentry apprenticeship.
  • 2 or more years of carpentry experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods, including installation and construction.
